# Copier states & lifecycle

Understand copier states — draft, active, and paused — what pauses a copier on its own, and how pausing and deleting affect open trades.

A copier is **Draft**, **Active**, or **Paused**. This page covers what each state means, the few things that pause a copier on their own, and what happens to open trades along the way.

## The three states

| State | Behaviour |
| ---------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Draft** | The copier isn't set up yet. It needs a sender and at least one receiver before it can be started. |
| **Active** | The copier is running. New sender trades are copied to receivers in real time; sender closes and SL/TP changes follow. |
| **Paused** | Nothing is copied — not new trades, and not the sender's closes or SL/TP changes. Open positions on all accounts stay open and are yours to manage. The copier's detail page shows this state as **Stopped**. |

Until a copier has a sender and a receiver, its status toggle is disabled. To start or stop a copier, use its status toggle (**Start** / **Stop** on the list, **Activate** / **Stop** on the detail page) and confirm.

## What pauses a copier on its own

Trada pauses a copier by itself in three cases. None of them resumes on its own — once you've dealt with the cause, start the copier again.

| Cause | What happens | Where you see it |
| ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Your subscription ends** — cancelled at the end of the billing period, or payment still overdue after the grace period | Every copier is paused and every account is disconnected. | A banner that your subscription has ended. After you reactivate a plan, reconnect your accounts, then start your copiers. |
| **A protection limit is reached** with the action **Stop copying** or **Close all & stop** | The whole copier is paused, for every receiver — not only the one that hit the limit. **Close all & stop** also closes the copier's positions first. | A **Protection Triggered** entry in the [copier logs](/copy-trading/copier-logs.md) and the notification bell. |
| **The broker keeps closing copied trades** — three of one receiver's copied positions closed by the broker within 10 minutes | The copier is paused. This usually means the account has hit a platform risk limit, such as a prop firm's drawdown floor. | A copier log entry that explains the pause. Check the account with your broker before you resume. |

See [Risk protection](/copy-trading/configure-receiver/risk-protection.md) for how protection limits are set.

## What doesn't pause a copier

**A disconnected account doesn't pause a copier.** If a sender or receiver disconnects or stops syncing, the copier stays **Active**. Trades can't be copied to or from that account while it's down; once it's connected again, copying continues without you restarting the copier. Watch the account's **Connection** status on the **Accounts** page — see [Syncing, status & troubleshooting](/connecting-accounts/syncing-troubleshooting.md).

**Working hours don't change the state either.** Outside a copier's [working hours](/copy-trading/working-hours.md), the copier stays **Active** and skips new trades, and the copier logs record each skipped trade.

## Pausing and open trades

Pausing a copier does **not** close anything. Positions stay open on the sender and receivers, and you manage them manually. The same is true when you remove a sender or a receiver — open trades are left open. A copier needs a sender to stay **Active**, so stop it before you remove its sender.

## Bulk actions

On the **Copy Trading** list, **Bulk actions** applies to all your copiers at once:

| Action | What it does |
| ------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Start All** | Starts every paused copier that has a sender and at least one receiver. |
| **Stop All** | Pauses every active copier. |

Bulk actions don't close positions. To close trades, close them on the accounts themselves.

## Deleting a copier

Deleting a copier removes its configuration after a confirmation. Open trades on the sender and receivers **remain open** — close them first if you want them closed. Deleting the account that is a copier's sender also deletes that copier. See [Create a copier](/copy-trading/create-a-copier.md) for duplicate and delete actions.
