# Journal overview

Every closed trade auto-syncs into a structured journal you can annotate and review — no manual entry.

The journal at `/journal` is where every closed trade from your connected accounts lands automatically, ready to be documented and reviewed. Trada records the execution; you add the context.

## Sync every closed trade automatically

Trada pulls closed trades from your connected accounts and lists them at `/journal`, newest first. There is no trade to type in and no form to fill — the execution data arrives from the platform.

* Execution fields (P\&L, entry and exit prices, volume, open and close times) are **read-only**. They come straight from the connected account and cannot be edited or deleted inside Trada.
* New trades appear after you press **Sync** in the table header, or on the next page load. Trada does not stream trades in real time.
* Trade times are stored in UTC and shown in your account timezone. P\&L is displayed in USD, always signed (for example `+120.45`, `-34.10`).

{% hint style="info" %}
There is no manual trade entry, editing, or deletion. The journal is a record of what actually executed on your account — you can only add documentation on top of it. To get trades flowing in, connect an account first. See [Connecting accounts](/connecting-accounts/connecting-accounts.md).
{% endhint %}

## Read your KPIs at a glance

The **Trades** tab shows four summary cards above the table. They always reflect your complete history — filters applied to the table below do **not** change them.

| Card                        | What it shows                                                                          | How it's read                                                                                         |
| --------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Trades Documented** | Completion percentage and a documented-vs-total count (for example `34/56 Documented`) | A trade counts as documented once it has at least one of: notes, rating, emotion, or setup type saved |
| **Average Trade Rating** | Mean star rating across rated trades, with a five-star fill | Only trades you have rated are included; hover a star to see how many trades carry that rating |
| **Average Emotional State** | Mean emotional rating, shown on a five-emoji scale (Bad → Excellent) | Only trades with an emotion saved are included; hover an emoji to see the count |
| **Recent Trades Streak** | Win/Loss result for your last seven trades, oldest on the left | Win = P\&L greater than 0; a break-even or losing trade (P\&L ≤ 0) reads as Loss |

KPIs refresh on page load, after a sync completes, and after you journal a trade. They are informational only — no card is clickable.

## Annotate what the numbers can't capture

Opening a trade lets you attach the reasoning and state behind it. Each trade holds:

* **Rating** — a one-to-five star judgment of trade quality.
* **Emotional state** — how you felt executing it, on the five-point scale.
* **Notes** — free-form rich text for setup, mistakes, and lessons.
* **Strategy** — a tag linking the trade to one of your named strategies, plus its per-strategy checklist.

Your documentation is stored server-side and syncs across every device you sign in on.

### Connect and sync

Connect a trading account, then press **Sync** on the **Trades** tab to pull in your closed trades. Full walkthrough in [Connecting accounts](/connecting-accounts/connecting-accounts.md).
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Document a trade

Open a trade to set its **rating**, **emotional state**, **notes**, and **strategy**. Step-by-step in [Journaling a trade](/journal/journaling-a-trade.md).
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Reuse across similar trades

Copy one trade's annotations onto several others at once with [Group journaling](/journal/group-journaling.md). A ten-second **Undo** window follows each apply.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Review by period

Switch to the **Daily**, **Weekly**, or **Monthly** tabs to review aggregated performance and write reflection notes. See [Period reviews](/journal/period-reviews.md).
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## Review across periods

Beyond the individual trade list, the journal aggregates your history by day, week, and month. Each period opens a review with stats (Total P\&L, Win Rate, best and worst), an equity curve, reflection notes, and the trades inside that window. Details in [Period reviews](/journal/period-reviews.md).

Period reviews and trade rows can produce a shareable certificate. Shared certificates are read-only links rendered live in the browser — not downloadable files. Sharing behavior is covered in [Sharing performance](/sharing/sharing.md).
